The program is emotionally, academically, and physically challenging. The Academy meets or exceeds Arizona POST standards and includes instruction in: Physical Criminal Law, Traffic Law, Search and Seizure, Rules of Evidence, Patrol and Observation, Domestic Violence, Cultural Awareness, Crime Scene Investigation, Crowd Control, Death Investigations, and many other classes. The program also incorporates proficiency skills training in the areas of defensive tactics, firearms, high risk stops and vehicle/pursuit operations. This 800+ hour program meets Tuesday and Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and all-day Saturday, for 11 months.
In addition to meeting Arizona POST requirements, the Chandler-Gilbert LETA program provides college academic credit in Administration of Justice Studies (AJS). Students who successfully complete the LETA program at CGCC are awarded Arizona POST eligibility for certification as peace officers, in addition to obtaining 40 credit hours in AJS coursework that may be applied toward an AJS certificate or degree. The AZPOST certificate is valid for up to 3 years.
Over 97% of our graduates are currently working as peace officers in Arizona.
Acceptance into the program is limited and based on the ability to meet standards set for admission to a police academy by Arizona POST.
